GEAR OF GRACE by Landen Dorsch
While shifting through the gears of his daughter’s little five-speed hatchback, Landen felt the Holy Spirit impress on his heart, “There are Gears of Grace that get you to destiny speed.” As he pondered that thought, he felt the Lord speak to him again.
“You can’t drive at highway speed in first gear, and you can’t live at the speed of destiny in the first gear of grace.”
As you shift through a vehicle’s gears to get to highway speed, you can feel the tension when you reach the gear’s potential for speed, and it can’t take you any faster. Using that as a metaphor, Landen identifies six ‘gears of grace’ or revelations of the nature of God’s grace, along with the tension that one feels when one reaches the speed limit of that revelation. He then identifies the ‘clutch’ or discipline of a disciple necessary to relieve that tension, allowing for the ‘shift into a new gear’ to grow as a disciple.
